Welcome!
My name is Dr. Francine Grevin and I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 20 years of clinical experience caring for people of all ages. I work with children, teens, and adults in Contra Costa, Alameda and other counties throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
My goal is to help my clients feel safe, understood and successful in our work together.
I believe that therapy must be individualized for each client. For younger children, I generally use play therapy techniques, such as sand tray therapy, therapeutic board games and art therapy, modalities that are both effective and enjoyable for the child. I also teach children age appropriate techniques to help them manage anxiety, stress, interpersonal difficulties, or mood changes. Parents and children also benefit from learning more about the nature of a child’s difficulties. With proper guidance, parents and children can develop strategies that can be utilized at home or school to further address a child’s needs. I am comfortable working with toddlers and pre-schoolers as young as 2 or 3 years of age who suffer from anxiety or mood changes, trauma-based symptoms, or behavioral issues.
Older children and teens tend to benefit from multiple modalities of psychotherapy, including skill building and problem solving techniques or creativity-based types of interventions. Adults often prefer a solution focused approach, learning cognitive behavioral strategies, or a more in-depth, insight-oriented approach.
Providing psychotherapy and counseling services in my Walnut Creek practice allows me to work with clients from diverse backgrounds and with a range of presenting issues. See the Services section of this site to get a sense of the wide variety of difficulties I treat. I enjoy my work tremendously and I believe that is a key factor in my success as a therapist.
